Sun Risers Hyderabad (SRH) has
clinched their lone Indian Premier League 2016 title on May 29 defeating star-studded Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) with front foot leadership from
David Warner. SRH bowlers have apparently derailed the strongest batting line
up of RCB. Literally the IPL 2016 final match has turned to be a tug of war
between the best bowling side represented by SRH while strongest willow
warriors from RCB led by the most valuable player of the tournament Virat
Kohli.
The aspirator for SRH, David
Warner has played a captain’s knock scoring 69 runs, the individual highest for
his side to steer his team to 208. Prior to that the SRH mentor has opted for
batting first after winning the toss and placed his bet on the Due Factor of
Bangalore’s M Chinnaswamy stadium. The Australian opener for all formats has
exhibited Captain Cool’s nerve while marshalling his bowlers to stage a
stunning comeback after Chris Gayle (76) and Virat Kohli (54) has threatened to
take the game away, reports The Guardian.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the highest
wicket taker in IPL 2016 has conceded only 9 runs against required 18 runs in
the final over. RCB has lingered its failure story as witnessed in 2009 and
2011 finals though hitting 13 sixes throughout its innings. RCB batting line up
is so strong that even England’s one-day captain Eoin Morgan hasn’t found an
opportunity in the Kohli squad for the final match, according to a report published
in BBC.
Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli have opened
the RCB innings with suitable response to the challenge posed by Warner &
Co. The West Indian master blaster has entertained the RCB fans hitting eight
sixes and four boundaries. Kohli has been witnessed uncharacteristically subdued
compared to Gayle and his departure at 54 has been acknowledged eventually as
the turning point for the match. After dismissal of Kohli at 140/2, RCB has
slipped from the match and finally has been able to manage 200/7, reports The Sydney Morning Herald.
Ecstatic Warner has referred the victory as a
fantastic team achievement and expressed gratitude to the players and owners of
SRH. Cutting has been adjudicated for the man of the match award. Virat Kohli
wins the orange cap scoring 973 runs while Bhuvneshwar Kumar bags the purple
cap for his successful hunt of 23 wickets. Hitting 38 sixes, Kohli also wins
the most sixes award and Mustafizur Rahman has been nominated for the Emerging
Player award. Champion SRH has also been honored with the Fair Play prize.
